Our next event took the focus off the main star of the tour, and allowed Raw Food Chef Bruce Horowitz to shine at what he does best.

The first of our Chef Trainings took place at Inspya Yoga at Byron Bay, and what a gorgeous space Susan and Lance have there!

This event was sold out WAY in advance with a long waiting list of people keen to come along. There was only room for 40 guests, and at a push we stretched it to 45!

Bruce took the class on a journey through raw gourmet food creation, teaching kitchen skills, talking taste and flavours and generally creating gastronimic heaven!

He guided us through the making of Elegant Ginger-Miso Nori Rolls, Sensational Shiskebab with Cacao-Goji Barbeque Sauce, Thai Coconut Curry Soup, Hemp-Spirulina Gomasio-topped Salad and Chocolate Ganache Pie. Sensational!

After the class everyone ate their fill of raw food – and I’ve got to say the Thai Coconut Curry Soup is one of my all time favourites! I’m sure everyone at the class learnt a lot about raw food preparation and aimed to try out the recipes at home – I know I did :-)

David Wolfe Tour – Raw Cacao Party

by Leisa on April 15, 2010

I’m pretty sure that this is the first time Australia has seen a Raw Cacao Party of this type – and what a fantastic night it was!

One thing I love about the people involved in the raw food scene, is their dedication to having a great time, without the need for alcohol or drugs (well, most of them anyway!). I was SO looking forward to a big night of dancing to good music, drinking raw cacao superfood elixir’s and having fun with a bunch of like-minded people.

The party started off with David Wolfe (a.k.a. Chocolate Pope Avocado Cacao) presiding over a Raw Cacao Celebration Ceremony to honour the sacred bean.

Once the ceremony was over – it was into the dancing! We were SO lucky to have Ganga Giri performing for us! This was the first time I had seen Ganga live and the music was incredible. Such energy, passion and power in the music, we danced until we dropped.

I am now a HUGE fan of Ganga Giri :-)

Well, it was a great night and a lot of good, clean, dancin’ fun was had by all.

David Wolfe Tour – The Retreat

by Leisa on April 15, 2010

Following the huge few days of Permaculture Tour, Starseed Gardens Talk, Bruce’s Chef Training and the fabulous Raw Cacao Party, we started the David Wolfe Epic Adventure Rainforest Retreat! Commencing on Monday afternoon, about 30 guests and 10 hosts & staff descended on the picturesque resort at the foot of Mt. Warning at Uki, for an intensive few days of saturation with David Wolfe’s philosophies.

We started with an introduction to the Retreat in the octagonal temple, creating a great vibe and setting the intention for the week.

Following this, we had a fantastic raw dinner created by my retreat Chef Jo and her kitchen assistants Belinda and Maggie. After dinner we headed back up to the temple for a night of inspiration as David talked until the early hours.

The following morning we had an early start for our hike up Mt. Warning. It was a beautiful morning with just a hint of rain on the way. The bus picked us up at the top of the driveway (a huge uphill walk in itself) and we headed towards the mountain.

Many of our adventurous group decided to hike the mountain barefoot! I stayed with my trusty hiking boots though, and we made our way up this incredible site. It was so peaceful, the air was pristine and you could feel the amazing energy of this sacred mountain as you climbed.

It was a long hike – about 2 and a half hours up and then another couple of hours back – and it was strenuous! Not for the faint hearted, but the magical views make it worth the effort! It was leech city though! Many of us had to contend with greedy, blood-sucking little critters latching on.

On the way back down David and several adventures went mushroom hunting, looking for edible specimens containing medicinal properties. And here’s what they found! The various mushrooms were dried and later made into a tea for the group to drink.

The rest of the day was spent either relaxing and catching up on sleep!, and taking in more lectures, that again ran late into the night.

David Wolfe Tour – Retreat 2

by Leisa on April 15, 2010

The next day was a bit of a rest day after the big Mt. Warning hike. Lots of good food, lectures, rest, and an amazing Yoga class with Lance Schuler. Many guests mentioned that the yoga class was a real highlight and that it bought the group together and created an amazing energy.

Lance Schuler

After lunch Bruce Horowitz and guest chef Matt Samuelson took over the kitchen and demonstrated some fantastic raw food recipes and created some tasty treats for everyone!

And of course after that we enjoyed more interaction and talks with David.

It was a great day!

David Wolfe Tour – Retreat 3

by Leisa on April 15, 2010

Our last full day took us on another part of the adventure – sea kayaking at Byron Bay. Uki where we are staying, is about an hour from Byron, and again we took the bus to our next port of call.

We arrived at Byron and got suited up for our kayak adventure!

We paddled out into the magnificent Byron Bay ocean.

Unfortunately there wasn’t a dolphin in site! Apparently it was a bit too windy and they were hiding around the other side of the point.

What a perfect day! By the time we were ready to come back in, the waves had gotten bigger and we had a great time surfing them in!

Once back on the beach we enjoyed a morning tea that Alice from Cape Byron Kayak’s provided for us. I had explained that we were all health nuts and that the normal Tim-Tams (chocolate biscuits) and tea and coffee wouldn’t be suitable for us, and she generously provided organic apples, oranges and nuts. However! There was one packet of Tim-Tams that sneaked it’s way out of the bag and some of the guests indulged! David threatened to have one, but he didn’t!

David Wolfe Tour - Not the Tim-Tams!

After all that exercise in the fresh air and ocean, we were all starving and hurried along to Barcelo where a scrumptious lunch was waiting for us, prepared by Chef Jo and her assistants Elyjah, Lyndsay and Johnny who owns the cafe. What a feast they provided! A refreshing juice to start and then salads, crackers and dips went down a treat!

After lunch we got back on the bus and headed to the retreat. We had more inspiring talks that went into the wee hours (not to mention the midnight swim, sauna, and spa sessions!!!)
